FAXport Overview
IP Fax Messaging software allows users to transmit faxes from virtually any Windows application, including e-mail programs such as MicroSoft Outlook and Lotus Notes/Domino as well as SMTP/POP3/IMAP4 systems.
A user simply selects the fax driver instead of the print driver and chooses Fax instead of Print.
The recipient name(s) and fax number(s) are then added manually or selected from an ODBC compliant phone book or contact manager.
The user then adds any necessary attachments along with a cover page and presses send. The fax travels over the LAN to the FAXport server application, which passes it on to a shared modem for transmission to its destination.
If all ports are in use, the fax is automatically queued in the server and transmitted as soon as a port becomes available.
If the fax server on the network is using either DNIS or DID lines (these lines could have 1-2 real phonelines but have hundreds of virtual phone numbers that ring onto it), incoming faxes may be routed either directly to the users e-mail inboxif using an e-mail system or kept in the classic FAXport receive log. This direct routing ensures that faxes remain privateonly the recipient can view them.
FAXport users can ask the ISP or telecom carrier for a DNIS number.

FAXport API (Application Programming Interface)
FAXport's API makes it easy to integrate FAXport with almost any external application. Some popular applications like Goldmine® and ACT!® have already been integrated into FAXport. FAXport's API comes in two flavors: SFAPI (Simple Fax API) is used to integrate applications with the standard FAXport client software. EFAPI (Extended Fax API) allows integrators to fully link third party applications without even using FAXport client software. Fax-enable any IBM mainframe, AS/400, Unix, Open-VMS, legacy. ERP applications such as SAP, Oracle, and PeopleSoft can also be integrated to interoperate with FAXport through the rich API toolkit.
